I’ve been online since 1997, when hired my friend and colleague Martin Bauer to help me design an online grant writing class for Truckee Meadows Community College. You see, the college didn’t have staff or the technology to help at the time. So, he helped me created the first online class for the college in Front Page.
Over the years, the grant writing basics online class morphed and is now offered through the College of Southern Nevada and to inner circle protégés. Can you believe it … I still use Front Page … even though MicroSoft no longer supports it. It, too, has morphed.
In 2006, I collaborated with Gay Hendricks to create the Genius Course Online. We hired Toby Carrier – a web designer – to set up the layout of the course in aMember. At the time, I was using a hosting service that was costing around $14.95/month. I thought I had to have separate hosting accounts for each online course I had. This means at one time, I had 5 different accounts … or around $100/month. I thought that was how things were done.
Toby, however, suggested another service provider … Blue Host … for our Genius Course Online. I wasn’t very exciting about using another service, but I decided to follow Toby’s advice and use Blue Host. It was only $6.95/month.
I’ve been with Blue Host ever since. I know have only 3 accounts and over 50 URL’s.
Here are the advantages I’ve found …
- I’ve cut my web hosting expenses in half … with 10 times as many sites.
It is one of the least expensive hosting services on the Internet … $6.95/month (at the time of this posting).- Set up is free.
- It has 24/7 customer service. The provider I had previously didn’t.
- I can have unlimited URL’s on a single hosting account … for only $10/year. I saved thousands with this feature alone.
- It supports Front Page.
- It supports Word Press. You can set up a Word Press site in 1 minute! A few days, I set one up for a complete new business … with everything … fully optimized in less than 60 minutes.
- It provides AWStats, which gives me stats on number of unique visitors each day/month and a report where visitors are coming from, keywords they are using to find you, etc.
- It has a robust affiliate program. I made over $600 last year alone.
- It has a free forum for discussion boards on your site.
- It has SQL database needed to support a Ticket system … absolutely necessary if you have an online business.
- It has email that can quickly and easily be set up with your email provider (I use Outlook mostly).
- It stores all my video and audio files, which slow down my computer because they are so big.
- It has won many awards, too.
So, to me, Blue Host is a “must have” if you want to have one or more websites and a business online.
